I started this painting when I first found out I was pregnant. It was an assignment for class to do a portait of someone without it actually being a portrait of them...
I had planned on the body being painted with shades of yellow.
(You were my sunshine, my only sunshine.)
Then I spent Valentines Day in the Emergency room and lost my beautiful baby.
So I decided finishing the painting would provide some sort of… I don’t know, I just felt like I needed to finish this.
Things changed, no doubt. And what was meant to be the happiest painting I’ve done turned into the saddest.
Do I need to explain that the blood on the hands represents my own guilt over my child’s death?
No.
This is my portrait of Jude... and the best way I could say I'm sorry.

This is really moving. You do a good job with shading and form, and the concept of the empty, blood-filled womb is powerful.
